Weddings
Congratulations on your engagement. Your decision to enter into
the relationship of married life is a sign of love, hope and
strength for the entire community.
Due to the volume of weddings requests and the large number of
parishioners, weddings are celebrated for registered
parishioners only. Either the bride or groom, or their parents
must be a registered, participating members of Holy Name Cathedral.
If you are not currently a registered member but you attend Mass at HNC on most weekends, and if you intend to be an active, contributing member of our parish community, you are welcome to register at 730 N. Wabash on Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
After four months of participation at the Cathedral, you will be eligible to reserve a wedding date for the celebration of your marriage.
Preparation
A minimum of six (6) months advanced planning and preparation prior to the wedding date is required.
Wedding Times
Nuptial Masses are on Fridays at 2:30 and 4:00 PM and on Saturdays at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM. At 6:30 PM on Saturday, there is time for a wedding ceremony without a Mass.
Rehearsal
Rehearsals are usually held the evening before the wedding at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 or 7:30.
Fees
The offering for the use of the Cathedral is $800.00. A $400.00 non refundable deposit is to be made at the time of scheduling the date and the remainder is due before the rehearsal. The Cathedral fee does not include programs offered by the Family Ministries Office - e.g. FOCCUS, Pre-Cana, and Natural Family Planning Seminars - which normally are a required part of the marriage preparation. Consult the priest or deacon working with you regarding the Family Ministries Office programs.
Music
All music is planned in consultation with the Cathedral Music Department. The Cathedral Musicians will play all Cathedral weddings. A $250.00 fee is charged for the organist and $225.00 and the cantor/soloist, and both are required. The Cathedral Music Department will be happy to engage additional musicians for an extra fee.
Visiting clergy
A family member or friend who is a priest or deacon is welcome to officiate at the wedding.
Preparation Only
Holy Name will prepare a parishioner/s to be married in a setting other than the Cathedral. A $200 fee is requested for this service.
