A Tour of Holy Name Cathedral
North State Street at Superior Street,  Chicago  Illinois

1. Bronze Doors

As you approached the Cathedral stairs from State Street, you undoubtedly noted the dramatic Cathedral doors. These enormous bronze doors are activated by a finger-touch hydraulic system. Each door weighs 1,200 pounds. Once inside, you may have noticed the door design is reflected in the bronze-and-glass screen between the vestibule and the nave of the church. These designs are representative of the Tree of Life. Both doors and screen were designed by Albert J. Friscia.
