Holy
Name Cathedral is both a parish and the seat of the Archdiocese of
Chicago. In 1999 Holy Name celebrated its 150th anniversary, culminating
with a Mass and gala banquet on November 21. As part of the year long
celebration, a History Committee was formed. This book is the result of
that committee's work in researching and documenting the growth of the
parish from a small wooden church built under extreme hardship to today's
flourishing, urban community. Holy Name is diverse in the ages of its
parishioners, their ethnicity, their economic status, and its many
activities, which grow from its dual role.
Holy Name Cathedral, A
Community of Diversity is an interesting story as well as an
excellent source of information about the parish's and the city's history. |
