Baptism


Congratulations on the planned baptism of your child! Holy Name Cathedral is pleased to be the Church in which this first Sacrament will be celebrated. After reading the details below, please complete the Baptism Registration Form.

Baptisms will be held in the Cathedral at 2:00 pm on the following Sundays in 2010:

September 5 & 19
October 3 & 24
November 7 & 28
December 12 & 26

Baptisms will be held in the Cathedral at 2:00 pm on the following Sundays in 2011:

Preparation Class

If this is your first child, we require that you take a Preparation Class prior to the Baptism. Classes can be taken before or after the birth of your child. Babies are welcome at the class. The course is strongly recommended for any godparent who has not previously taken it.

Classes will be held in the Parish Center on the following dates in 2010.

Godparents

The Church requirements for Roman Catholic Godparents are:
A child must have one practicing Roman Catholic godparent in good standing with the Church. This Catholic godparent usually must be at least 16 years old and be mature enough to  understand, accept and carry out the duties of a godparent.

  • A godparent must have received the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
  • A godparent must be living an exemplary life consistent with faith and morals as taught by the Roman Catholic Church.
  • A godparent must be actively practicing the faith.
  • A non-Catholic, baptized Christian may be chosen as a Christian Witness, as long as one godparent is Catholic.


Guests

Each family is allowed to have as many guests as they would like. You will be asked to give the number of guests you expect so that we can reserve that number of seats together.

Donation

It is appropriate to make a donation to Holy Name Cathedral at the time of the Baptism. There is no set amount.

Parking

Parking is provided during the ceremony at the Cathedral Parking lot on the corner of State and Superior. The entrance to the lot is on Superior.
