Parents
are the primary religious educators of their children. No religious
education program will be able to instill values, tell stories of faith,
witness to God's love and companionship if it is absent in the home.
Parents are the image and likeness of God in the eyes of their children.
A number of opportunities exist for parents to be involved with in
teaching the children.
Religious Education Reminders for parents:
-
Parents
are to bring their children to the Parish Center promptly at
9:15 a.m. Entrance to Frances Xavier Ward School classrooms
is through the triple glass doors behind the statue of Mary
in the courtyard.
-
Classes
begin promptly at 9:15 a.m. Students are expected to be
regular and punctual in attendance.
-
Children
are dismissed from classes at 10:45 a.m. in the Parish
Center Auditorium. No child may be dismissed early without a
written note from the parents, or the parent may come
personally (with the request in writing) to claim the child.
A child may never leave with an adult other than their
parents, unless the parent has have given consent
beforehand.
-
Children
may occasionally want to bring a guest to class. The same
expectations hold of a guest as the student. The same child
should not be bringing guests every week or the same guest
more than twice.
-
Parents
are expected to attend Sunday Mass with their child on a
consistent basis. The Liturgy is the most powerful formative
experience of the Church. Sit up front where your child can
easily see to help him/her follow what is happening.
Practice some of the prayers and responses so that he/she
can participate more fully and confidently.
-
Reinforce
the materials presented in class. Take time to reflect on
and reinforce the concepts and content of the lessons they
are learning.
-
Out
of concerns for dietary restrictions, please do not send
treats with your child to share with other students.
-
Except
in extraordinary circumstances, which must be approved by
the catechetical leader, the religious education program or
personnel will not maintain, supervise the taking of, or
administer medication.
-
If
classes are cancelled due to an emergency, a member of the
religious education staff will notify you.
Absence
Please notify us by either calling the Religious Education Office and
leaving a message, or contacting the teacher directly when you know your
child will not be attending a session. Leave complete information as to
how we can get the information on make-up work to you.
The number at the
Religious Education Office is (312) 573-4478.
Safety
Your child will not be allowed to leave with anyone other than you
unless we have permission in writing. The safety of your children is our
main concern.
