Chicago Shares is a voucher
program that enables you to help needy people in a constructive way. This is the
way it works:
*Purchase
books of Chicago Shares vouchers at 5 for $5;
*Give
vouchers to those who ask for money on the street;
*Recipients
use vouchers to purchase food, beverages and other necessities at participating
merchants, and
*Chicago
Shares reimburses merchants for all vouchers collected.
Vouchers were formerly sold through Holy Name Books and Gifts. Although this
bookstore is closed until repairs on the Cathedral are completed, it is still
possible to buy Chicago Shares vouchers by mail. Just go to
www.chicagoshares.org and download an order form. Follow the instructions on the
form and mail it together with your check or money order payable to Chicago
Shares to the address provided. We will promptly mail the vouchers to you.
“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.”
At Holy Name Cathedral we have installed a prayer request phone line. We invite
you to use this line when you have a special need. Your requests will be passed
on to our Ministers of Praise and to all others at Holy Name who are committed
to pray for these intentions. Call 312-573-4468.

carpool together. We especially need volunteers who can drive. To sign up or for

Our monthly meetings are usually on the second Sunday of each month. Since
Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May, our next meeting will be in June
(either the 8th or 15th, depending upon our assignment for Coffee in the
Courtyard.) Also read this column in the future weeks for details about
our July Pilgrimage.

COME HOLY
SPIRIT! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TOO!
OOPS! MY FAULT…J
Just a simple note to say that I had a misprint in the monthly calendar for the
Cathedral that you would have seen in the May 4th bulletin. There is no Faith
Sharing on May 14th and 21st. I didn’t remove it from our records before it was
printed. The Bernie Evans talk listed below is our
next
big forum. Check
it out for details. Again, sorry.
MORE SOFTBALL!
The Chicago Catholic Coed Softball League is putting together a one day, 8 team
softball tournament for charity. It will take place on May 24th from 9am-1pm at
Waveland Park. Proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital AND Mercy Home
for Boys and Girls. Cost and registration details at www.chicagosoftball.com

KNOW HOW TO VOTE! -- May 27, 2008
We are pleased to announce that our ministry is hosting an evening with noted
author Bernie Evans, who will give us a clearer picture of how we need to think
as Catholics this coming November at the polls. Believe me when I say that
voting cannot be simply cut and dry. Mr. Evans will be able to help clear things
up for us as to what it means to be Faithful Citizens. He will be here at Holy
Name Cathedral on
May 27th at 7pm
in Room 317. Come out and join us.

and mermaids, and “Celebrating Women,” documenting the history and growth of
women in technology, are currently at the
Field Museum.
General Admission is $14 and includes entrance to “Celebrating Women.” “Mystic
Creatures” is an additional $8. If you become or are a member of the museum,
admission is free. Bring a friend or come alone, but meet in front of the

We will either carpool or take the train and a trolley (to be decided beforehand

a day of it.

TWO GUEST SPEAKERS FOR QUARTERLY MEETING
HEALTH BEGINS AT 40
is the theme for our next Quarterly Meeting.
Although we all
know that healthy living should begin much earlier, it seems that when we reach
40, suddenly things begin to “go” and we begin to panic. On
June 1,
from
1:30 to 4 p.m.
in the
Parish Center,
two guest speakers will address many of our concerns and set us on the right
path to aging healthfully, if not gracefully.
Karen Scott,
D.D.S. will speak
about preventative and cosmetic innovations for our ongoing dental health;
Dolores Simon
will discuss diet and demonstrate exercises to promote balance, flexibility and
fitness as we age. The presentations are geared to appeal to both men and
women. Both speakers will also answer questions, so come prepared. (My
personal favorites will be, “How do we prevent “belly fat” or get rid of it once
it appears?” and “What do I look for in a dentist?”)
NOTE:
Because we want a large enough turnout to warrant these two experts’ time and
preparation, it is imperative to
RSVP to Carol or Bruce before May 24th.
If we do not have at least 25 interested participants, the event will be
cancelled. So, if you want to see these informative and entertaining
presentations, this might be a good time to call a friend or two to join you.

In our 20s and 30s, most of us probably didn’t
give much thought to our mortality or our legacy. We worked hard, played hard -
the future seemed far ahead of us, hard to comprehend. Now on occasion we find
ourselves thinking - maybe fretting - am I on the right path? Join us on
Thursday, May 15 from 7-9pm in the St. Clement Chapel, located at 642 W. Deming
Place, as speaker Fr. John Boivin from Holy Name Cathedral helps us put aside
the usual, worldly signposts and consider where we want to be and how to get
there from a Catholic perspective. We’ll consider a biblical way to think about
the excitement, possibilities and fears that can accompany middle adulthood -
wherever we find ourselves in this wonderful journey of life. Suggested
donation: $10 includes food/beverages. Sponsored by iCompass (formerly Charis2),
Ignatian spirituality for adults 35 and up. Visit http://www.icompass.org for
